Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Convert your mining machinery tickets to civil OH&S tickets.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
is the process used to assess an individuals existing level of knowledge and skills against a range of industry jobs and standards.  By demonstrating competence in performing workplace tasks and providing evidence of past experience, this assessment process may lead to gaining a full or part qualification.

Do you have an official "Black Coal" competency for operating machinery on mine sites?
If so then you have an option available to you of converting your mining ticket to an Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) ticket for working in the "Civil Construction" industry. Having a current OH&S ticket may also mean that you could qualify for RPL to obtain mining certification.

What is involved?
You will need to provide evidence of your machinery operating experience and be able to demonstrate that you are able to meet the current national knowledge and skills standards.
It is up to you to provide enough evidence to satisfy the NHST trainers who are authorised by the Queensland government to assess your application.

A New Horizons trainer will assess your application and contact you regarding the next steps that you will need to take.
You may be asked to come in for an interview with the trainer who may have some questions that you will need to answer.

Depending on your application and in particular the evidence you provide you may be asked to:
  • provide more detailed evidence
  • undertake a skills and knowledge challenge test
  • undertake gap training (training to fill the gaps in your skills and knowledge level)
  • complete a theory and or practical assessment
