Finalist in Training Awards

New Horizons was nominated in the category of "Best Training Processes and Practices of the Year - Registered Training Organisation" and had been selected as one of the final three. This category received a large number of nominations and being selected as a finalist is testament to the commitment and standards that are highly valued and implemented by New Horizons.

As a Registered Training Organisation servicing Central Queensland and the wider regions, NHST delivers training programs for contracting companies, construction companies, trades people, supervisors and many other organisations and individuals who require training for involvement within the mining and civil construction industries.

A real strength of NHST is its ability to operate in collaboration with other organisations to provide complete training solutions for major projects. As an example of this NHST has been an integral part of a 'Work Readiness' program over the last three years that has included a network of organisations such as The Salvation Army Employment Plus, The Mining Industry Skills Centre Inc., Golding Contractors, Anglo Coal, Government Departments, Educational Institutions and other parties to provide a training program that has been highly regarded within the mining industry for providing pathways to employment for those who have participated.

During the Work Readiness program NHST provided classroom based training sessions on mine site safety and emergency procedures, risk management, how employees are expected to conduct themselves on mine sites and general information on mine site activities. A seven day program was also conducted by NHST on the Advanced Equipment Haul Truck Simulator (owned by the Mining Industry Skills Centre).

NHST is a major provider of machinery operator training and is authorised to run courses for mining and civil construction purposes on machines such as Haul Truck, Front End Loader, Excavator, Grader, Dozer, Backhoe, Skid Steer Loader (Bobcat) and cranes.

NHST is dedicated to providing quality training in all its programs and is also a leading provider of courses such as Generic Inductions to Coal Mining, Supervisor Training Programs (S1,2 & 3), Working in Confined Spaces, Working Safely at Heights, Low Voltage Switchboard Rescue / CPR and a number of non-accredited courses such Manual Handling and Working with Hand and Power Tools.

Of all the main objectives and visions that drive New Horizons, one stands out among all and that is the issue of safety. With more than 120 years experience in the mining and construction industries between them NHST's trainers have seen first hand the dangers associated with heavy industry and therefore the issue of safety in the workplace and in general activities placed as the highest priority.
