The innovation is in the actual set up of the facility. It includes approx 3 km of haul roads complete with ramps and grades that run over natural terrain as well as down through a purpose built simulated open cut pit (under construction). The training area also features stock pile and dumping stations and two way communications between all machine operators, supervisor vehicles and trainers on the ground. Compulsory PPE (hard hats, hi vis vests etc) is implemented and the facility operates under a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that reflect mine/site quarry operations.
The site also includes numerous haul road intersections and traffic is regulated by signage and guide posts.
Trainees will learn how to operate machinery reflecting fundamental mine site activities and this includes working in conjunction with other machine operaters and maintaining communications with all parties present in the immediate and wider training environments.
