Purpose:
The Generic Induction to Heavy Industry introduces participants to the Acts and Regulations, accepted practices and safety procedures that are implemented on industrial sites to create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
"Heavy Industry" refers to workplaces such as (but not limited to):
- coal ports
- power plants
- manufacturing plants
- heavy engineering workshops
- fabrication workshops
- mineral processing refineries
- surface treatment plants
Program Contents:
1. Industry Overview
Brief overview of the heavy industry environment
2. Legislation, Regulations and Procedures
Important information on the application and enforcement of the Workplace Health and Safety legislation, regulation and procedures that govern Heavy Industry.
3. Safety Signs, Safety Devices and PPE
Important information on and examples of safety signs and devices and personal protective equipment (PPE) that are typically used on heavy industry sites to maintain a safe working environment for personnel and equipment.
4. Risk Management
Outlines how to identify, access and control risks in the workplace
5. Managing Worl Hazards
Safe and correct procedures to manage potential hazards.
6. Fitness for Work
Outlines an individual's requirements for fitness to work and the variety of factors that can have an adverse effect.
This topic also covers the importance of maintaining a high level of pesonal health and hygiene, drug and alcohol proceduresm fatigue management, nutrition and personal fitness.
7. Isolation, Tagging and Permits
Related to heavy industry invironments
8. Emergency Procedures
Emergency procedures, communication and basic first aid response.
9. Fire Fighting and Prevention
Information that will assist you in how to prevent fires as well as instructions on how to fight small fires.
10. Environmental Management
Environmental and cultural heritage obligations.
11. Work Process Model
The Work Process Model pulls together many of the concepts and practices that are covered in the course.
